CReAtE Lab Member Shaban Muhammad Co-Leads DKU iGEM Team to Silver Medal at iGEM 2025
Shaban Muhammad, a member of the CReAtE Lab and co-leader of the DKU iGEM 2025 team , was awarded a Silver Medal at the iGEM Grand Jamboree held in Paris from November 13–16, 2025. The team’s project, DopaMine, focused on engineering Saccharomyces cerevisiae for the dynamic biosynthesis and regulation of L-DOPA as a potential treatment for Parkinson’s Disease.
The project successfully established a proof-of-concept for controlled therapeutic production using a dynamic dual-control regulatory system. Under the advisorship of Dr. Linfeng Huang, the team developed innovative biosynthetic pathways and a low-cost anaerobic gut simulation model to validate their engineered yeast.
