CReAtE Lab Brings Astrobiology to the Screen at DKU

CReAtE Lab hosted its first film screening event, “Astrobiology on Screen,” on September 11, 2026, with support from the Division of Natural and Applied Sciences (DNAS) at Duke Kunshan University.

The event featured a screening of Project Hail Mary, bringing the DKU community together to explore how science is represented through film. With its connections to molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, environmental science and engineering, the film provided an engaging setting for audiences from different academic backgrounds to encounter ideas related to astrobiology.

More than 50 members of the DKU community attended the screening, including the Chair of DNAS, faculty members and their families, and students from a wide range of disciplines. The diverse turnout made the evening a wonderful opportunity for scientific curiosity and community engagement beyond the classroom and laboratory.

As the first event of its kind organized by CReAtE Lab, Astrobiology on Screen marks the beginning of what we hope will become a regular activity, using film as an accessible and enjoyable way to bring together science, interdisciplinary thinking, and the wider DKU community.
